Rafael Tavares is a PhD student at University of Coimbra, Portugal. He works in the area of Microbiology and his research interests are focused on (i) antibiotic resistance dynamics, namely in environmental compartments impacted by anthropogenic activities (e.g. wastewater), and (ii) in elucidating the contribution of genetic elements such as integrons to antimicrobial resistance and bacterial ecology in those compartments. He has co-authored 5 scientific papers and has attended multiple scientific meetings where he presented his work in a poster or oral presentation format. His h-index is currently 5 and has in overall 91 citations of his work. Key skills include traditional and molecular microbiology techniques as well as bioinformatic skills for data analysis of next generation sequencing data (Illumina and PacBio) for both genome and metagenome sequencing, with emphasis on R language.
