Ane Escobar started her scientific career as a Biomedical Engineer at the Soft Matter Nanotechnology Group of Dr. Sergio E. Moya at CIC BiomaGUNE, where she worked on non-viral vectors based on polymers and lipids for its use in gene therapy. After the MsC in Biotechnology, obatined at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, she worked at the private sector for the company Diagnostic Grifols S.A., where her work was focused on the development of novel kits for protein detection in blood. Since 2014 to 2018 she has been completing her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Sergio E. Moya and Dr. Marek Grzelczak at CIC Biomagune in San Sebastián. Her PhD thesis was focused on the development of antibacterial and bioactive mesoporous titania films functionalized with growth factors, antibiotics and bioactive ions. During her PhD she was involved in European projects, such as H2020 EU-Project: “Hybrid Drug Delivery Systems upon Mesoporous Materials, Self-Assembled Therapeutics and Virosomes” and IAPP EU-Project “Design of versatile and fast colloidal sensor based on virus modified particles”. Within the Marie Curie Fellowship, she worked on the synthesis and characterization of mesoporous films at Centro Nacional de Energía Atómica (Buenos Aires, Argentina) under the supervision of Dr. Paula Angelome and also conducted studies on the processes of cell differentiation and cell adherence at the University of Greifswald (Germany) in collaboration with the company Surflay Nanotec GmbH in Berlin under the supervision of Dr. Lars Dähne and Dr. Mihaela Delcea. Currently, she is working as post-doc with Dr. Miguel Oliveira and Prof. Rui L. Reis at i3Bs -University of Minho-. She is involved in the NanOptoNerve FCT founded R&D project (T496131321-00036522), focused on the development of novel TERM strategies to tackle musculoskeletal and neurodegenerative diseases. Also, she is enriching the knowledge she gained during her PhD about bone tissue engineering, collaborating with other projects focused on that topic.
