AC Dias-Cabral obtained her Chemistry degree from the Sciences Faculty of the University of Lisbon in 1992. Following this, she completed a Pedagogical Aptitude and Scientific Capacity exam in Chemistry in 1997, followed by a PhD in Biochemistry in 2004, both at the University of Beira Interior (UBI). Since then, she has held the position of Assistant Professor at UBI's Department of Chemistry. From 2013 to 2023, she served as the coordinator of the 1st Cycle in Biotechnology, and she has been a member of the Biotechnology 2nd cycle course Committee since 2015, assuming coordination in 2023. Additionally, from 2015 to 2019, she was part of the Biochemistry 3rd cycle course Committee, all within the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Sciences at UBI. Her research interests are centered around: - Chromatographic processes, particularly adsorption processes involving biomolecules and molecular assemblies (proteins, peptides, monoclonal antibodies, host cell plasmid DNA, DNA, RNA, virus-like particles, and bacteriophages). She investigates optimization and scale-up of chromatographic units, considering implications due to base matrix physical structure, properties, and functionalization. - Biomolecule thermodynamics, utilizing calorimetry to study colloidal phenomena and surface chemistry interactions, aiming to elucidate mechanisms of interaction. - Biosensors, focusing on electrochemical immune and enzymatic biosensors for detecting organic compounds, disease biomarkers, and viruses, with applications in point-of-care device construction. She has authored 26 peer-reviewed papers, predominantly taking senior/corresponding authorship roles in 77% of these publications, demonstrating her leadership and expertise. In 2015, she secured a National Patent. Additionally, she has delivered 84 oral presentations, including 17 as an invited speaker, and presented 48 posters at various international and national conferences and seminars. She has supervised the completion of 3 PhDs, 25 MSc theses, and 11 other students with research grants. Furthermore, she has experience serving on committees for PhD and MSc theses, as well as committees for research fellowships under projects and for the acquisition of equipment. AC Dias-Cabral actively fosters scientific networks and international collaborations, engaging with over 50 authors from 17 different national and international institutions. She has chaired 2 international conferences and recently served as one of the chairs for Microbiotec 23, a renowned Portuguese conference. She has contributed to the scientific committees of several national and international conferences (including ISPPP 2023, 2018, 2016, and 2012, BPP 2022, HIC/DSP 2019, and ESBES 2018 and 2012). She participated in international projects, including one sponsored by NSF in the USA and 2 from Europe. On the national front, she has secured funding for 7 research projects, showcasing her significant impact on national research endeavors. In university management, she is deeply involved in various academic committees and councils. She has been a member of the Faculty of Sciences College Board since 2021 and has contributed to governance processes. She has also excelled in knowledge transfer, securing a patent for electrochemical glycoprotein B detection with potential applications in diagnostics. Her collaborations with industry leaders highlight her ability to bridge academia and industry effectively. Through workshops and educational initiatives, she shares her expertise, enhancing the skills of her peers. Furthermore, her involvement in the "Entrance" project showcases her dedication to equipping academics with entrepreneurial skills. Dias-Cabral's commitment to continuous education is evident in her creation of non-degree courses, fostering a culture of lifelong learning. Her outreach initiatives effectively convey scientific ideas to a wide range of audiences, facilitating a deeper comprehension of Biotechnology.
