Renata Alexandra Alves Gomes Ferreira
Renata Alexandra Alves Gomes Ferreira is an Invited Adjunct Professor of Polytechnic University of Beja, School of Agriculture,
Department of Technology and Applied Sciences. She completed her PhD in Environmental Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico,
University of Lisbon, on "Phytoremediation of soils contaminated with organic pollutants", in 2014. She co-supervised 3 MSc
dissertations, supervised 1 work of course completion of LSc/BSc and co-supervised 3. She participated as Post-doc Fellow
in 1 project, Research Fellow in 2 projects and Researcher in 3 projects. She organized 2 events. Currently, she is a member
of the Scientific Technical Committee of Environmental Engineering Course, and a member of the Scientific Technical Committee
of Laboratory Analysis Short-cycle Course, and co-coordinator of Eco-Escolas Programme, of the School of Agriculture, at Polytechnic
Institute of Beja. She was a member of the scientific committee of CERENA (Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente) during
2016-Jan 2024. She works in the areas of: (a) Engineering and Technology with emphasis on Environmental Engineering and on
Environmental Biotechnology; (b) Natural Sciences with emphasis on Biological Sciences (Plant Sciences, Molecular Biology
and Biochemistry) and on Earth and Environmental Sciences (Environmental Sciences). Her main research work addresses the study
of phytoremediation of contaminated water and soil with organic and inorganic pollutants (in natural systems and in constructed
wetlands), focus on the plant role (e.g., oxidative stress response and detoxification, photosynthetic system, secondary metabolism)
and on the organic compounds phytodegradation mechanisms. In the area, she published 18 articles in peer-reviewed journals
and presented her work in several International Conferences, Meetings and Symposiums.
