Inês Barbosa is an integrated researcher at the Institute of Sociology of the University of Porto in the Artistic Creation, Cultural Practices and Policies research group. She holds a master's degree in Associativism and Sociocultural Animation and a Ph.D. in Sociology of Education from the University of Minho (2016). She also completed a postgraduate program in Performance at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto (2017). Her doctoral research examined the educational processes that emerge from engagement in collective action. The thesis received an Honorable Mention in the Young Social Scientists Award (CES-UC). Her research interests include housing and tourist gentrification, social inequalities (class, gender, ethnicity), social mobilizations, precarity and decent work, art and public space, and child and youth participation. She has favoured participatory research methodologies, urban ethnography, biographical approaches, visual sociology, and "walking sociology" within a public sociology perspective. Inês has been part of various scientific research projects, publishing articles and book chapters, and participating as a speaker in conferences and debates nationally and internationally. She currently coordinates the National Study on Roma Communities (FCT) and a project on the Right to Housing, funded by the Art for Democracy programme (DGArtes). She is a lecturer in Cultural Animation in the master's programs at FLUP. She has also collaborated in Urban Sociology, Sociology of Art, and Sociology of Territory and Environment courses at FLUP and coordinates an advanced training course on artistic practices and participatory approaches in research and social intervention at the Higher Institute of Social Service of Porto. In addition, she maintains an extensive scientific outreach activity through various formats such as summer schools, conferences, film cycles, and exhibitions, among others. She hosts and produces the podcast on Sociology and Utopia and co-coordinates the Theater & Politics Laboratory, an extension activity of ISUP. She has been a Theater of the Oppressed practitioner since 2010 and a certified trainer in citizenship education, gender equality, group animation, and dramatic expression. She has been involved in projects and initiatives related to arts and non-formal education. She regularly participates in residencies and artistic projects involving sound, video, and performance. Member of ESA - RN25 Social Movements and RN37 Urban Sociology, REDE - International Network for Research in the Arts, Art Education and Art/Education, Cost Action 18137 - European Middle-Class Mass Housing. She is also a member of UMAR - Union of Women Alternative Response and UIST - Union of Tenants and Homeless People.
