Duarte Araújo, Ph.D., is Professor and Head of the Laboratory of Expertise in Sport of the Faculty of Human Kinetics at the University of Lisbon, Portugal. He leads the research unit CIPER ¿ Interdisciplinary Centre for the study of Human Performance, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), with more than 100 researchers. He was associate editor of the journal Psychology of Sport and Exercise (2014-2022, the only psychology journal ranked Q1 in Sport Sciences (WoS)) and is associate editor of Journal of Expertise and member of the Editorial Board of the following journals: International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Frontiers in Psychology - section Movement Science and Sport Psychology, Sports Medicine - Open, European Journal of Sport Science, Ecological Psychology. Araújos research focus on sport expertise and decision-making, performance analysis, and affordances for physical activity from an ecological dynamics, complex systems approach. He has published more than 200 papers in scientific journals (with over 9,300 citations in the Web of Science) and more than 15 books about expertise, team performance, variability, cognition, and decision-making in sport. He collaborates regularly with Sport Institutions and Clubs and supervises several doctoral students from Portugal, Brazil, Spain, and Australia. Awarded for his research work in psychology and motor behavior by the European College of Sport Science (ECSS, 2001); by the Associations of Researchers in Physical and Sporting Activities (ACAPS, 2002); by the Technical University of Lisbon/Santander in 2008 and 2009; by the Olympic Committee of Portugal in 2015 and 2019; by the University of Lisbon/Santander Universities in 2018. President of the 2nd International Congress of Complex Systems in Sport & 10th European Workshop of Ecological Psychology in Madeira, November 2008; and more recently President of the Sport Science Congress 2021 (online), in July, in Cruz Quebrada. Member of the scientific committee of several international congresses, particularly the "Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Sciences" in Lisbon, 2008, July 9-12, with around 2100 participants, and the Barcelona edition in 2013. Elected member of the Managing Council of the International Society of Sport Psychology, from June 2001 to 2005. Founder in 1996 and past coordinator until 2007 of the European Network of Young Specialists in Sport Psychology. President of the Portuguese Society of Sport Psychology, 2010-2018, winning a seat on the National Sports Council and the General Assembly of the Portuguese Olympic Committee. In this role, for 8 years he organized the annual scientific conferences on sports psychology in different cities across the country. Coordinator of the Sports Training Specialty of the PhD in Human Motricity at the FMH, since 2010. Chairman of the FMH Sports and Health Department from 2018 to 2021. Vice-president of the Scientific Council for successive terms from 2014 to the present. He currently leads and teaches 12 courses in the 3 cycles of teaching, related to sports psychology, sports training and motor behavior. He has supervised 15 doctoral students with a defended thesis (9 of which with an FCT grant) and more than 30 master's students with a defended thesis. He is currently supervising 8 doctoral students, 4 of whom with an FCT grant, and 3 master's students with a grant. He has also supervised 6 post-doctoral researchers, 2 of whom have received an FCT grant. He is one of the researchers in the TOP 2% worldwide, according to the 2023 report by Stanford University, USA.
