Sara R. Fernandes has graduated in Pharmacy at the Institute Polytechnic of Porto (IPP) in 2012. In 2014, she obtained her MSc in Biochemistry applied to Health - Specialization in Biotechnology from the same institution. The work developed during her MSc was performed in collaboration with a company (M&M Biotechnology) and focused on the determination and evaluation of the antimicrobial activity of bioactive compounds in plant-based natural products. Since 2014, she has been an Invited Assistant Teacher in the Pharmacy and Medicinal Biotechnology degrees at the School of Health of the Institute Polytechnic of Porto (ESS-IPP), teaching both theoretical and laboratory classes in the areas of pharmacology, pharmaceutical technology, alternative therapies (phytotherapy and homeopathy), and microbiology. In 2016, S. R. Fernandes was a research fellow in LAQV, REQUIMTE, Department of Chemical Sciences, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (FFUP), acquiring practice in the development of separative and chromatographic methods using different types of detection systems (UV-vis, fluorescence, and mass spectrometry (MS)) for the quantitative analysis of therapeutic drugs in biomatrices (plasma, urine). In 2017, she was a research fellow in the MinDog-Organic minerals in petfood project (POCI-01-0247-FEDER-017616) and worked on the development of flow systems that allow the retention of foods supplemented with organic forms of minerals and the respective leaching with solutions that mimic digestive juices. Currently, Sara R. Fernandes is a PhD student in Pharmaceutical Sciences - Specialization in Analytical Chemistry at FFUP. Her PhD project is focused on the development and implementation of miniaturized and automatic strategies for sample treatment targeting the determination of different bioactive compounds in biomatrices. Recently, S.R. Fernandes is a research fellow in the project "Analytics2H - Advanced analytical strategies based on 3D printing to unveil the health-to-disease transition" (2022.06012.PTDC) and has been working on the development of 3D devices for microsampling of non-invasive samples coupled online with mass spectrometry for the determination of different bioactive compounds. During her PhD, S. R. Fernandes was a member of the organizing committee of ANALÍTICA 2018 - 9th Meeting of the Analytical Chemistry Division of the Portuguese Society of Chemistry (Porto, 2018) and a trainer in the laboratory classes of the MSc in Clinical and Forensic Analytical Toxicology and the MSc in Quality Control (FFUP). She is currently a member of the Portuguese Society of Chemistry and a regular member of the EuChemS-DAC Sample Preparation Study Group and Network. S.R. Fernandes is the co-author of 12 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, 16 posters, and 10 oral communications at both international and national conferences. She received a poster prize award at the 11th National Meeting on Chromatography and a Young Scientist Oral Presentation Prize at the 11th Meeting of the SPQ Analytical Chemistry Divisionby by the Analytical and Bioanalytical Chemistry journal, and two grants from the EuChemS-DAC Sample Preparation Study Group and Network for PhD students attending ExTech 2021 and HPLC 2023. Furthermore, one of the papers resulting from her PhD work was published in one of the top ten Journals of Analytical Chemistry, and have received a merit certificate (PAPRE 2023) from IPP.
