David Andrade was awarded a PhD in Steel and Composite Construction in September 2021 at the University of Coimbra with Distinction and Cum Laude. He is currently working as an Researcher at the University of Coimbra and he is an integrated member of ISISE (Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering). As a member of ISISE, he is also the coordinator of the Digital and Advanced Design (DAD) cluster, where more than 10 doctoral researchers and university professors participate. As the cluster coordinator, he plays a crucial role in fostering relationships and collaboration among researchers. He is responsible for overseeing and promoting the cluster's activities, including future research strategies, identifying potential funding opportunities, facilitating partnerships with other institutions, research centres, and companies, as well as organizing meetings and events with cluster members. His main activities are in welding research, lab management, teaching, preparation of applications for funding, management of research projects and supervision of students. In the last five years, he was strongly involved in one national project Friction 4.0 (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-032089), which was focused on the development of tools for the Fiction Stir Welding Process, manufactured with temperature-sensitive coatings with high and low friction levels, that offer the innovative possibility of controlling and measuring the temperature at the contact interface between the tool and the workpiece. At present, he is working in the R2UTechnologies - modular systems project, which has the contribution of 30 enterprises and 18 non-business entities, funded through the Recovery and Resilience Plan with an amount of around 215M€. This project aims for the development of the modular construction paradigm and to empower the business, the academic and the human resources of the sector. Finally, he is also involved in the European project IAMFAT (RFCS - 101112614), which focuses on additive manufacturing technologies for large civil structures, material characterization, and standardization. He has proven herself as a motivated researcher as he has already published more than 10 articles in ISI journals and participated in over 10 leading conferences in his research field. The research interests cover various topics which are related to the mechanical and microstructural characterisation of metallic materials, modelling, numerical simulation, welding, additive manufacturing, auxetic structures and modular construction.
