Ana Matias is an Auxiliar Researcher at CIMA - University of Algarve. She has a Geology Degree (1996), an MSc degree in Coastal and Marine Studies (2000), a PhD in Marine Geology (2006), and an MSc degree in Science Communication (2019). She devoted most of her academic career to researching coastal geological processes and participating in projects that covered dune vulnerability, overwash, and coastal resilience. Since 2017, A. Matias's primary research focus has been Transdisciplinary Research on Geoscience, Art, and Communication. She is currently carrying out research in four main areas: (1) transdisciplinary approaches to coastal and marine environments; (2) coastal risk communication; (3) social inclusion in science communication; and (4) experimental approaches to science communication formats. She coordinated the science & art projects 'The Sea Rolls the Sand' (2017, coastal science & dance), 'Embodying Memories' (2019, neuroscience & visual art), and Rescue|Search (2020, marine science & photography). She is on the direction board of SciComPt (Portuguese science communication network). ***Highlight: developer of the kit 'Salt Gardens Box', funded by the British Society for Geomorphology. The Kit is composed of a box containing bricks and miniatures to build the salt marsh environments, on three steps at different heights. The bricks and miniatures embody the natural elements that compose the tidal wetlands (sediment, animal species, and typical vegetation).
