S. Gago graduated in Education of Physics and Chemistry in 2001 (University of Evora) and completed her PhD degree in Chemistry in 2006 (University of Aveiro, CICECO). During the period 2006-2010, she was Post Doc researcher in the same unit. Since 2010, she has been integrated into the LAQV-REQUIMTE Research Centre in the "Cultural Heritage and Responsive Materials" group (CHARM) as Assistant Researcher. S. Gago has published 73 papers in international journals, with 12 of these as corresponding author, 1 patent, 2 chapters in books (sum of the times cited: 1671 (without self-citations); average citations per item: 24.07; h-index: 28), 29 oral communications (4 invited and 25 co-authored) and 58 poster communications (authored or co-authored). Additionally, she was involved in the organization of the 10th Inorganic Conference of Portuguese Society of Chemistry. She was Co-PI of an Exploratory Research Project under the MIT Portugal Program (call 2021) and participated as a team member in 9 Projects, 2 of which are ongoing. Throughout her career, she supervised or co-supervised 18 undergraduate students, 7 master's students (1 ongoing) and 3 PhD students (ongoing). She also was jury of 7 Master´s theses and 7 final projects of undergraduate students. Her research path includes 2 short stays abroad (Technical University of Munich and University of Valencia). She has been actively involved in several teaching activities for secondary schools and for 1st cycle of undergraduate programmes. S. Gago served as a reviewer for several international journals. During her career, she experienced 3 periods of interruption: 2 due to maternity leaves (04-07-2013/30-11-2013 and 18-06-2017/15-10-2017) and 1 due to unemployment (02-04-2015/30-09-2015). Her extensive expertise comprise the design, characterization and modification of new functional materials based on mesoporous silica, layered double hydroxides and magnetic nanoparticles, inorganic/organometallic complexes, ionic and photoresponsive molecules for several applications: antimicrobial systems or drug delivery, nano electrochromic/photochromic devices, oxidation dessulfurization catalysis or photo/electrocatalysis for hydrogen production.
