Personal Statement Name: Zhi Li Major: Aquaculture and Biological Science (PhD) E-mail: 916213030@qq.com UNIVERSITY EDUCATION : 2013.09-2017.06 Undergraduate. Aquaculture, Shenyang Agricultural University 2017.09-2020.06 Master. Aquaculture, Shanghai Ocean University. 2020.09-2024.11 PhD. Aquaculture and Biological Science, University of Algarve ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE : During 2013 to 2017 years I began to participate in academic research. In this period I mainly worked on SSR analysis of Danio rerio and Palaemonetes sinensis. And initial contact with molecular experiments, my undergraduate thesis: Genetic diversity and structure and Chinese grass shrimp, Palaemonetes sinensis, inferred from transcriptome-derived microsatellite markers. During 2017 to 2020 years I mainly worked on razor clam (Sinonovacula constricta) in lab of VP Li (Shanghai Ocean University). I studied a neurotransmitter gene called dopamine beta hydroxylase (DßH), which is a key enzyme for dopamine to synthesize norepinephrine. I studied its effects on the abnormal development of razor clam larvae and their effects on growth. And the title of my graduation thesis: Cloning, expression and functional analysis of dopamine ß-hydroxylase in Sinonovacula constricta. In addition, I also took part in others studies about the razor clam, including innate immune of complement system (complement C3 and B factor) in razor clam, inland salinity water and freshwater were used to raise razor clam, a four-CRD C-type lectin from razor clam Sinonovacula constricta mediates agglutination and phagocytosis. During 2020 to 2024 I conducted research on mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) in Professor Deborah M. Power's laboratory at the Centre of Marine Sciences, University of Algarve. My thesis is divided into three parts. The first part discusses the diversity of neuropeptide precursors expressed in the mussel mantle and the impact of commissure severed on neuropeptide expression and function in the mantle during shell regeneration. The second part further explores the overall changes in shell repair processes in mussels with intact and damaged CPG commissures by analyzing the mantle transcriptome. The third part describes the allatostatin neuropeptide system in the mussel mantle and its role in the immune response following bacterial challenge. These findings lay the foundation for understanding the regulatory processes of mantle function in shell biomineralization, which is crucial for understanding the evolution of the nervous system and function in mollusc

2021/09/01 - 2024/09/10 Since 2021, I have served as Vice President of the Chinese Students Association in Algarve (Portugal), focusing on helping Chinese students studying in Portugal integrate into the University of Algarve. This includes providing support and assistance in daily life to Chinese students, conveying the concern of the Chinese Embassy in Portugal and promoting activities to cultivate a sense of belonging among Chinese students.

2019/04/19 - 2019/04/23 In April 2019, I participated as a volunteer in the "Praise the Earth-Protect Species Diversity-Protect Juvenile Fish·Defend the Ocean" public welfare event held by “China Bule Sustainability Institute” in Shanghai Disney Town. This is to promote the protection of marine environment/species diversity to the public.

2013/10/01 - 2016/06/01 At Shenyang Agricultural University, I am a loyal member of the student union of the faculty, responsible for organizing and managing the social activities and the college students, which provided valuable management experience. I also joined the newspaper staff of Shenyang Agricultural University and was responsible for writing press releases to promote the university (including admissions promotion work), which provided valuable writing and socializing skills and experience.

2015/03/10 - 2015/05/30 From March to May 2015, I interned at “Panjin Photosynthetic Crab Industry Co., Ltd” in Liaoning Province, China, providing crab farming technical guidance to farmers. Due to the recognition of my ability in algae understand and identification, I was allowed to participate in the work of crab seedling disease identification and aquaculture water environment assessment. Provided technical support for the company's crab seed breeding and production.
