João holds a degree in Environmental Engineer (University of Algarve 2000) and a PhD in Environmental Engineering (University of Coimbra 2014). João was lecturer and assistant professor at the University of Coimbra (between 2004 and 2019), and now is member of the R&D unit CERIS Coimbra (since May 2022). João has relevant work in the development and application of systemic approaches to decision making, in particular for problems in the water sector, with application of operational research methods (mathematical programming methods, meta-heuristics and multi-objective optimization). João has also advanced knowledge in the field of GIS, different programming languages (C / C ++, Python and R language), air quality modeling, hydraulic and hydrological modeling and wastewater treatment process modeling. João has participated in several research projects and environmental consultancy, he has a wide range of publications in scientific journals and conferences (including 10 in international journals and more than 30 papers in scientific meetings), and experience in guiding scientific and technical teams (including 7 master's dissertations) .
