Pedro Miguel R. Barros completed the Ph.D. in Molecular Biology in 2012 from the U. Nova de Lisboa (ITQB NOVA). He graduated in Biology in 2005 from the U. Évora and in 2018 he obtained the Master's degree in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology from U. Lisboa (Faculdade de Ciências). Presently, Pedro Barros is a Contracted Researcher at ITQB NOVA, in the Plant Functional Genomics Lab. He is also the Coordinator of the Plant Sciences Community at ELIXIR-PT node (Biodata.pt), and is engaged in implementing FAIR data management practices at Institutional level. Since 2021 he is Invited Adjunct Professor at Inst. Politécnico de Setúbal. Pedro Barros's domain of specialization is plant molecular biology and bioinformatics. His research interests focus on the molecular mechanisms regulating plant's adaptation to environmental challenges, with a focus on woody and herbaceous plants of national interest. Pedro is studying the effect of drought and heat stress in cork development, targeting gene regulatory networks involved in suberin biosynthesis and is involved in the maintenance and improvement of the CorkOakDB web portal (for genome browsing and data visualization). He is also co-PI of Rice2B project, aiming to develop strategies for multi-biofortification of rice with vitamins B1 and B2. Pedro published over 20 original peer-reviewed articles in journals from Plant Science field, including Molecular Plant (2020), Plant Journal (2022), Environmental and Experimental Botany (2019), Tree Physiology (2021 and 2012) and Journal of Experimental Botany (2016 and 2012). He also authored 3 book chapters. Pedro Barros is presently supervising 3 PhD students and 1 MSc student. He supervise(d) 6 MSc dissertation(s), co-supervised 1 and mentored other 4 young researchers. Pedro has been also enrolled in teaching activities at M.Sc. and Ph.D. levels at ITQB NOVA. He is a coordinator of the Bioinformatics and Biostatistics platform of GREEN-It BioResources for Sustainability Research Unit.
