Sandra Moreira Rocha obtained her BSc and MSc degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Beira Interior (UBI) in 2008 and 2010, respectively. In 2023 concluded her Ph.D in Biomedicine from the UBI with an individual doctoral fellowship from the Foundation for Science and Technology, Portugal. Her research work focused on molecular mechanisms underlying the role of the STEAP1 protein in prostate cancer. Specifically, she explored the clinical significance of STEAP1 protein expression in prostate cancer, and unravelling its potential and usefulness in the prognostic of this disease; analysed the effect of epigenetic alterations in regulating STEAP1 expression; characterized the proteome of prostate cancer cells silenced for STEAP1; and determined the effect of anti-androgenic and chemotherapeutic drugs in regulating STEAP1 expression and how STEAP1 expression levels may influence the response of prostate cancer cells to these drugs. She has collaborated in advanced training supervising master students. Sandra Rocha has published several scientific articles in international peer-review journals. She is co-author of book chapters and several communications. Currently, she is a technician at the Faculty of Health Sciences at UBI, and a collaborating member of the CICS-UBI. Also, she is a member of the ASPIC (Portuguese Association for Cancer Research).
