Ana Catarina Faria holds a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), concluded with CUM LAUDE distinction in May 2023. A. Faria graduated with an MSc in Chemical Engineering from FEUP (2012-2017) with a final mark of 16 (out of 20). Her master’s thesis (final internship), carried out in a business environment at Etanor/Penha (Lactogal Group), focused on developing a comprehensive life cycle assessment of the overall product process chain. In 2017, she joined LEPABE (FEUP), Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology, and Energy, as a research fellow in the project LEPABE-ECO-INNOVATION (ref. NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000005) and, shortly thereafter, in the Power2Methane project (ref. POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030277), where she fostered her early interest in Power-to-Gas concepts and Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) technologies for methane production. In 2018, she was awarded an FCT doctoral grant and enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Chemical and Biological Engineering at FEUP in 02/2019 under the supervision of Prof. Luís Madeira, Dr. Carlos Miguel, and Prof. Alírio Rodrigues. A. Faria focused her PhD research on process intensification strategies for CO2 capture and methanation, a key approach toward achieving Europe’s 2050 net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. Her work included synthesizing and characterizing materials (catalysts, adsorbents, and hybrid materials), integrating them into multifunctional reactors, and testing for efficient conversion of CO2 into Synthetic Natural Gas (SNG). Currently, A. Faria is a Senior Scientist at Fraunhofer Portugal AWAM (05/2023-ongoing), working on applied research focused on biogas production and upgrading, power-to-methane technology, and low-carbon energy production. Since 02/2024, she has been affiliated with the research center CITAB at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD).
