Tiago holds a doctorate in medieval history (Oxford, 2013) and is a research fellow at NOVA FCSH's Instituto de Estudos Medievais (IEM), ranking "Excellent" in FCT's research quality audit. He has served as coordinator of IEM's research group "Territories and Powers, a 'Glocal' Perspective", with over 100 members. As of late, he initiated and co-chairs NEMUS, a multidisciplinary think-tank on the medieval environment, and in 2022-23 he was PI of FALCO, a competitively funded team project on historical interspecies relations. He has published widely on medieval cross-border interactions, especially from the points of view of diplomacy, politics and cultural exchange, and more recently on medieval environmental studies. *EXTENDED CV:* Tiago comes from a multidisciplinary background in languages and literature, medieval studies, and history. His doctoral thesis proposes a re-conception of medieval "international relations", and he has since led funded research projects on communication in medieval diplomacy, and on diplomacy as a component of state formation. He has a strong interest in statecraft and processes of politico-cultural transfer: he was chief copyeditor of the first issues of the "Royal Studies Journal" (University of Winchester) and coordinates the books "Philippa of Lancaster and the Court Culture of Medieval Portugal" for Palgrave MacMillan, and "Communication and Diplomacy in Early State-Making: Meridional Europe, 1200-1550", for Coimbra University Press. Besides, he has published with, and peer-reviewed for, the Journal of Medieval Studies, the Anuario de Estudios Medievales, the Journal of Medieval Iberian Studies, the English Historical Review, Varia Historia, En la España Medieval, and IEM's journal Medievalista. Tiago takes public dissemination of scholarship to heart, having organised large conferences, interdisciplinary round tables and seminars, medieval study days, open lectures, produced content for museum exhibitions and history magazines, contributed to radio and television talk shows, and co-organised summer schools and open courses. He has chaired compulsory undergraduate modules in History departments in the UK and Portugal (at the universities of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church and NOVA FCSH), and taught optional modules for Oxford University (UK) and Towson University (USA). He has been a contributing member in research projects in the Low Countries, France, Spain, Portugal, the UK, the US, besides leading field trips to Tunisia, the UAE and Norway to examine traditions of medieval falconry.
