Paulo Peixoto holds a Ph.D. from the University of Coimbra (UC). He is an Associate Professor with Tenure at the University of Coimbra, Portugal. He is also a senior researcher at the Institute of Systems and Robotics (ISR-UC). His research interests include artificial perception for forestry, natural human-computer interfaces, and human behavior recognition. He has been involved with/responsible for several funded projects at both national and international levels in artificial perception for robotics, human-computer interfaces, and human activity monitoring (8 projects as PI and 8 as member of the research team). He is the author/co-author of more than 70 publications in international scientific journals, book chapters, and refereed conference proceedings. Over the last 15 years, he has supervised 41 M.Sc. students and 3 Ph.D. Currently, he is the supervisor of 7 Ph.D. students. Two of his PhD students won the prize for the best PhD thesis in robotics in Portugal, awarded by the Portuguese Society of Robotics, in 2010 and 2018. He served at several international conferences, including the 13th IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Conference (ITSC2010) as Vice Conference and Finance Chair, the IEEE/RSJ International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS 2012) and Vice Conference and Finance Chair, and the 26th IEEE International Symposium on Robot and Human Interactive Communication (RO-MAN 2017) as General Co-Chair and Finance Chair.
