YOU CAN FIND A MUCH MORE READABLE AND COMPREHENSIVE VERSION OF THIS CV AT: https://urbantransitionshub.org/957-2/ - I am currently Assistant Professor (Investigador Principal) at ICS-ULisboa, where have been working as a researcher since 2015. The common thread running throughout my scholarly work (in the fields of human and political geography, urban studies, and planning theory) is the interest for the territorial and spatial dimension of politics, democracy and governance. I have conducted investigations on a range of different topics (including Israel’s settlement policy; divided cities and planning conflicts; urban social movements; urban policy and housing issues) from a perspective influenced by critical urban studies, phronetic political science, interpretive policy analysis, and practice theory. At ICS-ULisboa I integrate the research groups Environment, Territory and Society (SHIFT) and Regimes, Institutions, Governance and Policies (RIGoP). I am co-founder and current chair of the Urban Transition Hub (UTH) and I sit on the board of the Social Movements Research Network of the Council for European Studies. In 2019 I have contributed to the birth of the Portuguese National Network for Housing Studies (Rede H) and I have sat on the Rede’s board between 2019-2022. In 2015, I received the Italian National Scientific Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale, ASN) in Geography. In the last decade have received project grants from the Portuguese Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and the EU Commission – including two grants as PI for a total of over €400,000, which have allowed me to lead two interdisciplinary teams of a dozen researchers as coordinator of the projects exPERts and LOGO. I have also received several small grants from international institutions for the organization of scientific events – e.g. Fondation Les Treilles, Minerva Humanities Center, AESOP, DAAD. My articles have appeared (in English, Italian, Portuguese, and Hebrew) in authoritative academic journals in the field of planning, regional studies, geography, and cognate disciplines. I have authored a book on the history of Palestinian people (Carocci 2010); an edited volume on planning conflicts (Jovis 2015); and an edited volume on Israel’s settlement policy in the West Bank (Indiana University Press 2017). Over the years, I have written several short essays directed to a broader, non-academic public, contributed to policy reports, and managed blogs and websites. Throughout my career I have accumulated substantial teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level – as teaching assistant, lecturer, and mentor. Currently, I am faculty member of the PhD programme in Development Studies (University of Lisbon), where I also sit in the boards of the Scientific Council and of the Coordination Committee. I have organized tens of scientific events and been invited to give talks by academic institutions in Europe, the US, and Israel/Palestine. I have been visiting researcher at the Department of Politics and Government at the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Be’er Sheva (2012) and at the Department of Politics, Culture, and Society of the University of Turin (2018). I am currently working on three research projects. The project LOGO (2023-2026) investigates the introduction of local housing plans in the Portuguese system and its impact on the governance of the sector. The project DASH (2023-2026) is a collaborative project established between Portugal, Germany, Denmark, and Serbia to foster cross-sectoral and cross-country exchanges on affordable and sustainable housing strategies. The project Arroios Rebelde (2022-2025) is both an investigation on urban social movements in Lisbon and a platform of community engagement between the academia and the local associations and movements of the neighbourhood of Arroios. .
