Pedro F. Pereira graduated in Civil Engineering at Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto (FEUP) in 2009. The Master thesis obtained grade A (Excellent) on the European grading scale. He developed his PhD work from Nov 2013 to Jul 2018. A general framework for OB in residential buildings analysis was proposed and special focus was given to the detection of some occupant actions, predicting OBs and determining occupant impacts in the indoor environment were made. The thesis was nationally recognised with the annual award of UPORTO to the best civil engineering PhD thesis. He has a SCOPUS h-index of 16. The candidate began his PhD in September 2013 and successfully completed it in July 2018. During his doctoral studies, he was involved in various research projects. In 2013, he actively participated in an industry-driven R&D project to create energy-efficient ceramic tiles using cool pigments. From 2013 to 2015, he was employed full-time as a researcher in a competitive project (financed by ERDF), which aimed to develop energy-efficient thermal mortar and masonry blocks with improved thermal and mechanical properties. Subsequently, he joined a research team at the Institute of Construction to optimize the performance of residential buildings, incorporating occupant behavior into the analysis. Between 2016 and 2019, he worked as a full-time researcher on a national project (H0ME) to develop a modular nearly Zero Energy Building with photovoltaic panels and energy storage systems using second-life electric vehicle batteries. As part of this project, he developed algorithms to detect occupant actions and their impacts, which were then used to optimize the automation of building management systems. In 2019, the candidate contributed as a PhD researcher to an international R&D project (Energy PUSH) under the competitive INTERREG SUDOE program. He created a digital twin of a building using machine learning techniques, integrating BIM and building simulation to enhance housing stock management based on indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency criteria. Since 2019, he has actively participated in the scientific committees of both national and international conferences, including DCE (2019, 2021, and 2023) and CEES 2025. Additionally, he has been a member of the organizing committees for four scientific events, such as the XII DBMC and Patorreb (2015 and 2023). In 2022, he joined the EEA Grants Circular 2B research project, focused on developing circular solutions for the exterior envelope of modular buildings with high energy efficiency. That same year, started a six-year research contract as part of the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus - 4th Edition, funded by FCT, as a junior researcher. In September 2022, he began teaching at FEUP, delivering the course "Building Services" in the two Master programs, as well as the "Capstone Project" course in the Bachelor's program in Civil Engineering. In 2024, he integrated a Horizon Europe project as Principal Investigator (PI) of the University of Porto. This project has a global budget of 5M€. The candidate was an invited reviewer of 79 ISI journal papers. He is currently a member of the editorial board of three international journals, including one ISI. Colleagues from the Brazilian UFSC and the Danish DTU invited him to co-edit an international book about Occupant Behaviour. The candidate is the supervisor 3 PhD thesis and co-supervisor of 2 PhD thesis. He was the supervisor of 12 MSc students and was invited to be referee in 1 PhD panel and 3 MSc panels. He participated in Consulting activities for the industry of an overall service delivery of more than 250 000€. Throughout his professional journey, the candidate has developed expertise in energy simulation, scientific knowledge in indoor environmental quality, and extensive skills in building monitoring and artificial intelligence techniques to analyze and predict occupant behaviour in buildings.
