João M.A. Santos is an accomplished researcher with a wealth of experience in developing innovative therapies for non-communicable diseases. He holds a PhD in Regenerative Medicine and Mechanisms of Disease, and has made significant scientific contributions throughout his career. João currently works at the Center of Marine Sciences, where he uses zebrafish as a model to study orphan diseases and screen new drugs for cardiovascular, skeletal, and neurological disorders. In addition, João has extensive experience in stem cell and molecular biology and extracellular vesicles analysis. João has published nine papers with a cumulative impact factor of 58.5 and an H-index of 7. He has played a significant role in securing and implementing multiple national and international research projects, including serving as the lead principal investigator for one. He has supervised 13 researchers and students and has been helping with teaching at the University of Algarve since 2019. João has also engaged in various public outreach activities, such as science festivals and mentoring programs, and is a member of national and international research societies. João is highly regarded by his colleagues for his excellent communication and leadership skills. He takes great pride in his excellent oral and written scientific communication skills, which have earned him numerous awards. In addition to his scientific career, João gained valuable working experience in a bank, which provided him with a business perspective and soft skills that have proven beneficial in his scientific career.
