Matteo GIGANTE (Rome, 1991) is an Integrated Post-Doctoral Researcher of the 3rd group (Brazilian Literature and Culture) of the Center for Lusophone and European Literatures and Cultures of the University of Lisbon (CLEPUL). Since August 15th, 2023 is a Contracted Post-Doctoral Fellow of the research project WRITER ARTISTS AND ARTIST WRITERS: the relationship between literature and art in contemporary Brazil (AL-LA), from CLEPUL, coordinated by Professor Alva Martínez Teixeiro and financed by national funds, from Portugal, through FCT in scope of the project UIDB/00077/2020. His research field, based on Brazilian Literature and Portuguese Language Literatures, frequently investigates the relationship between Literature and the other Arts including Social Sciences and Gender Studies. He concluded his PhD in 2022, with top marks, and the title European Doctor, in Literature and Culture Studies, in Portuguese and Romance Studies, specializing in Brazilian Studies, at the School of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon (FLUL). His PhD project, EROS E ARES NOS TRÓPICOS - [ENG: EROS & ARES IN THE TROPICS: how a certain Brazilian literature decided to disarm logics of militar regimentation and desacralize myths of masculinity], supervised by Professor Teixeiro, was supported by the University of Lisbon and FLUL, through the BD2017 PhD Scholarship. He was member of the Organizing Committee of the IV Congress of ABRE (Association of Brazilianists in Europe). Since 2018 he presented 15 papers, participating at 13 International Scientific meetings in Brazil, Peru, Spain, Czech Republic, Switzerland, and Portugal; also moderating 3 panels at international conferences held at the Palacký University (Czech Republic) and at the University of Salamanca (Spain). In addition to the PhD Thesis and the Degree Thesis (not published online) and the Master's Dissertation, he has 11 publications (4 articles and 1 review in scientific journals, 5 book chapters, and 1 co-authored book chapter). After having completed a training session and successfully passed the relevant exam, he was selected as evaluator of University Study Courses by the HIGHER EDUCATION ASSESSMENT AND ACCREDITATION AGENCY (A3ES), Portugal. In November 2022, he was called to be part of an External Evaluation Committee, carrying out the evaluation of the PhD in Literature at the University of Évora (Portugal). In 2020, he undertook a quarterly doctoral research internship linked to the research center BODY AND TEXTUALITY of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. This project was supervised by Professors Torras and Teixeiro, with a scholarship from the ERASMUS+ program (European Union) and a final evaluation of 20/20. In 2015 he participated in a research project in Campinas (Brazil), financed from UNICAMP, supervised by Professors Alcir Pécora and Teixeiro, which fed into the elaboration of the Master's Dissertation, HILDA HILST e a 'obscena lucidez': entrereceção e repressão - [ENG: HILDA HILST & the 'obscene lucidity': Between reception & repression], supervised by Professor Teixeiro, and the award of the Master in Romance Studies at FLUL, with a specialization in Brazilian and African Studies, with a final grade of 19/20. Having completed his ERASMUS program at FLUL (2012-2013), he finished the Degree in Modern Languages and Literatures at the University of Rome La Sapienza, with top marks (recognized in Portugal, by the DGES, as 20/20). His 2014 thesis, GRACILIANO RAMOS: una memoria di aride storie - [ENG: GRACILIANO RAMOS: a memory of arid stories], on Brazilian Literature, was supervised by Professor Sonia Netto Salomão. He was also assistant to Professor M. Depperu in the teaching of Italian language at FLUL, and at the Italian language school for foreigners TORRE DI BABELE (Rome). In 2017 he was awarded the DITALS I certification, by the UNISTRASI (Italy), specializing in teaching Italian to foreign university students.
