I am Franklin Gaspar, currently a researcher in the field of Climate Adaptation at FEUP, attending the second semester of the Doctoral Programme in Spatial Planning at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto. I hold a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture and a double degree in Urban Planning and Environmental Management. I have a professional and academic background in landscape design and construction, specifically related to climate risk adaptation, with a focus on the design and construction of green and blue infrastructure to mitigate urban flooding and urban heat. For the last ten years, I have been working with interdisciplinary teams of environmental engineers, geographers and landscape architects, and this experience has been crucial in my decision to pursue a PhD in an interdisciplinary context combining engineering and planning, which could have practical applications after my thesis. The practical approach of the research conducted by CITTA's professors motivated me to join the PhD programme in Spatial Planning at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. Currently, as a researcher at FEUP, I am contributing to the design of a climate-responsive and participatory methodology, with two main roles: firstly, to map urban heating in a specific vulnerable area of the city of Porto with a high rate of the elderly population, and secondly, to collaborate on a step-by-step guide for planners working on the adaptive capacities of vulnerable urban-areas, susceptible both in terms of population sensitivity and heat exposure. Due to the development of academic research in Green Infrastructure and Landscape Planning that dialogue with my professional practice, I had opportunities to present my work in International Competitions, Conferences and Workshops in different countries around the world such as Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, France, India, Italy and Switzerland. Furthermore, I am also a registered architect in the Brazilian Council of Architecture and Urbanism (CAU-BR), a registered Environmental Technologist by the Brazilian Federal Council of Chemistry (CFQ), a member of the Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP), of the International Water Association (IWA). Additionally, I am a certified Project Manager Professional by the Project Management for Development Program of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB | BID).
