Jorge Manuel da Silva Figueiredo completed his PhD in 1996 from the Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto (Portugal). He obtained the Master's degree (DEA) in Diplôme d'Études Appronfondies d'Astrophysique et Techniques Spatiales in 1989 from the Université Paris VII and Université Paris XI and a Degree in Physics/Applied Mathematics (Astronomy branch) in 1988 from the Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto. He is Assistant Professor at the University of Minho (Mathematics Department and Physics Centre). He works in the area of Exact Sciences with emphasis on Applied Mathematics. He published 18 articles in international specialized peer-review journals. In its Ciência Vitae curriculum, the most frequent terms in the context of scientific, technological and artistic-cultural production are: finite volume scheme; general finite difference scheme; polynomial reconstruction; mesh-free; very high-order; hydrostatic reconstruction; MOOD; MUSCLE; well-balanced scheme; non-conservative problem; asymptotic analysis; beams; rods; plates; linear elasticity; Bernoulli-Navier; Kirchhoff-Love; piezoelasticity; mathematics education; project based learning; pre-main sequence low-mass stars. He co-supervised 1 PhD thesis and 5 Master's degree thesis. He has been co-director of the Department of Mathematics for Science and Technology of University of Minho (2008-2009), of the Department of Mathematics and Applications of University of Minho (2010-2011) and of the Department of Mathematics of University of Minho (2022-2023). He has been the Director of the Master's degree course in Mathematics and Applications to Mechanics of the University of Minho (2001-2006). He was responsible for teaching Curricular Units of Finite Elements and Functional Analysis in the framework of this master course. He has been the Director of the Master's degree course in Applied Mathematics of the University of Minho (2007-2014) He was responsible for teaching Curricular Units of Differential Equations (Complements of Mathematical Analysis) and Statistics (Statistical Methods) to several C1 courses of engineering.
