Patricia Pinto is an assistant researcher at the Centre of Marine Sciences (CCMAR)-University of Algarve (UAlg) and an Invited Assistant Professor at UAlg. She graduated with merit in Biotechnology Engineering in 2001 (5-year degree at UAlg including an Erasmus internship in Belgium) and was awarded a PhD in Molecular Biology in 2006 by Cardiff University-UK under the supervision of Prof Canário (CCMAR) and Dr Sweeny (CU). - She is specialized on the diversity, roles and disruption of fish hormonal systems by pollutants and other environmental threats and more recently on the interplay between microbes and fish defenses in aquaculture/food safety, combining in vitro/in vivo experimentation in fish (FELASA-C certified Senior Researcher-coordinator since 2017) with molecular biology and Omics technologies. - PP has 18 years postdoctoral experience at CCMAR/Univ.Algarve and in 26 work/advanced training periods in research centres/companies in Europe-Asia, within EU projects or funded by independent mobility, infrastructure and technology access grants. She published 51 international peer-reviewed articles (24 as 1st author, 3 as last, 16 as corresponding), 92% of which in Q1/Q2 journals, with a current h-index of 16. She produced 15 book contributions, 44 oral and 44 poster communications, 7 invited talks in events for academia and industry, one policy report (for EU project ShareBiotech) and >500 sequence/omics profiles in public databases. She participated in 29 research projects (5 as PI) and coordinated Omics tasks and student/staff in 7 projects linking academia to Aquaculture/Food industries in the last 5 years. - She coordinates the Euromarine-funded MODEL-EDC network of experts in marine organism endocrine-disruption (2 workshops and one congress session organized, 1 state-of-the-art talk) and CCMAR activities within the TRANSOCEAN long-term working group in Ocean Decade actions. - She is in the board of the Iberian Association for Comparative Endocrinology (AIEC), is guest review editor for Frontiers in Endocrinology and Fishes and regular invited reviewer for >20 scientific journals and for MSc theses of the international IMBRSea MSc program. She has been very active in conferences (8) and technological workshops (8) organization, being main moderator or chair of 5 international conferences/workshops in the last 5 years. - She is an integrated PhD member of the CEIB group at CCMAR and assistant researcher at UAlg where she is responsible for Cell Biology and Metagenomics modules taught to national and international BSc/MSc students. She co-supervised 3 post-docs, 4 PhD students, 15 MSc students and 15 technicians/professional internships. She has been very active developing/performing dissemination-outreach for schools and the public, including talks/experimental activities at schools and events and receiving students for summer internships at UAlg, reaching >3,000 people the last 5 years, namely within recent MicroWaste and MicroFish projects, dedicated to environmental pollution monitoring and citizen science.
