Renata Gonçalves is a researcher at the Collaborative Laboratory for Sustainable and Smart Aquaculture (S2AQUA, PT). She holds a BSc. degree in Zootechnics Engineering (2006) from the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, PT, a MSc. in Sciences of the Sea resources (2009) from the University of Porto, PT, and a Ph.D. in Aquaculture (2021) from the Technical University of Denmark, DTUAqua, DK. Throughout her career, she has been involved in several national and international funded projects, initially as a research assistant at CIIMAR, PT (2006-2007) and CCMAR, PT (2009-2018) and later as a PhD student and a post-doctoral researcher at DTUAqua, DK. During her doctoral and posdoctoral research, she dedicated her efforts to advancing the land-based production of European lobster, focusing on nutritional and technical rearing solutions, as well as water quality management. Her significant contributions to the aquaculture of invertebrates are evident through the publication of seven peer-reviewed articles on the topic in the last four years. In total, she has interacted with more than 30 collaborators in co-authoring scientific papers and has contributed to 15 articles (11 as the first author) published in peer-reviewed journals. Renata’s achievements have been recognized on various platforms, including being selected as finalist of the EAS Student Spotlight Award 2019 in Berlin, Germany. In addition to her research activities, she has also been actively involved in mentoring students at different academic levels, tutoring two Ph.D. students, three MSc. theses, and two BSc. theses. Her multidisciplinary background has equipped her with a diverse skill set, spanning areas such as ecotoxicology, ecology, conservation and policy, and aquaculture. In her current role at S2AQUA, Renata continues to contribute her expertise towards finding sustainable solutions for the aquaculture industry.
