Catarina Cruzeiro (CC) finished her 5-year Zootechnic Engineer degree (UTAD, PT) in 2007 and her MS degree (UTAD, PT) in 2009. Between her degrees, she did an international BS in Animal Production (Aeres Dronten, NL) and her thesis at WUR (NL). She worked as a MOLECULAR TECHNICIAN (NIOZ, NL), and between 2009-2011 she took the position of JUNIOR ASSISTANT at CIIMAR (PT) under an Environmental & Toxicological project (BI/PDCT/MAR/70436/2006). In 2012, she started pursuing her PhD in Biomedical Sciences (SFRH/BD/79305/2011, ICBAS-UPorto), finishing in 2016 as "Approved with distinction", with 2 book chapters+7 articles. In 2016, she was actively involved (GUEST RESEARCHER) in an international project (FDCT117/2014/A3, MAC), focused on mangrove environments and the accumulation of pesticides on the food-wed, by coaching a PhD student and sharing my analytical know-how with other USJ researchers, resulting 5-Q1 publications (~IF 6.4). In 2017, CC was awarded a Postdoc Fellowship grant (SFRH/BPF/120558/2016, CFE-UC), which allowed her to establish a new international network group. In 2019, she accepted a Postdoc position at HMGU (DE), Plant Microbiome Group, focusing on the project: Innovative Decentralized and Low-cost Treatment Systems for Optimal Urban Wastewater Management (European project IDOUM-WATER21015 JPI, EUR391K). Working at such a prestigious international institute gave her the skills (professional network, financial project administration, competitive cutting-edge environment) to attract in 2020 competitive funding as PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATOR, in the project: SLUdge (and other residues) Recoveries in agriculture: environment and health Protection, (Fondazione Cariplo-REF 2020-1029, IT & DE, EUR234K). As RESEARCH partner of Lab. Paisagem (PT) got a 1-year project (N14199/2022, EUR60K) on environmental education (5th-9th grade) focused on soil health & biodiversity. In 2023, she worked at the Environmental Simulation Group (HMGU) in the BioFoodOnMars project (031B0936, EUR508K, SENIOR POSTDOC) to optimize the biomass production of marginal soils by the addition of biofertilizers or soil additives. At the moment, she has started her JUNIOR LEADER Fellowship grant (La Caixa) at LSRE-LCM (FEUP) and the international project NEWater (Water4All) as a partner. So far, she has actively contributed to 21 research projects, writing & management (11 funded). Over these years, she has overtaken various organizational topics, such as analytical lab management & chemicals supply, project leadership, teaching, advising & mentoring students and administrative functions (funding acquisition, budget and project management). So far, she supervised 9 MSc students (5 as ERASMUS+), 13 graduate students (CIIMAR & HMGU) and 5 PhD students (TUM & UP). CC has evaluated a doctoral proposal (USJ, Macau) and 3 bachelor theses (ICBAS, UP). She has participated in 10 national + international conferences >35 works and performed 18 oral presentations (4 invited talks). CC authored 50 articles and 3 book chapters (5 as the corresponding author, 5 as senior author, 12 as the first author) in international peer-reviewed journals (h-index=25, i10-index=36, >1400 citations-Google Scholar) and peer-reviewed 52 articles. She interacted with over 158 collaborators from national and international institutions in co-authorship of scientific articles, book chapters and project writing. She has various organizational skills: project leadership, teaching, advising (external project advisor), student mentoring, evaluation (in-house ERASMUS+ program, internships), and administrative functions (funding acquisition, budget & project management) in competitive cutting-edge international environments.
