Maria João Brito is a Ph.D. student in Modern Literature and Cultures at NOVA University of Lisbon. She holds a Master’s degree in English and North American Studies from NOVA University of Lisbon, with a dissertation about the effect of Jack the Ripper’s crimes on the Portuguese press and cultural panorama. She also holds a BA in Languages, Literature, and Cultures in English and Portuguese Studies from the same institution. Her main field of interest centers predominantly on Anglophone Studies. Her current research focuses on female scientist characters in Portuguese and Anglophone historical novels (published in the 21st century). She is also interested in Anglo-Portuguese Relations, Women's Studies, Mystery Fiction, and Anglophone Culture from the Victorian Era to the Interwar Years.
