Ana Morais de Sá earned her Ph.D. in Territorial Engineering from the University of Lisbon, Instituto Superior Técnico, graduating in 2014. She holds a pre-Bologna degree in Territorial Engineering and a master's degree in Urban Planning and Territorial Management, also from the University of Lisbon, Instituto Superior Técnico. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Environment at the Instituto Superior Técnico of the University of Lisbon. Over the past 20 years, she has taught various courses in Urban and Spatial Planning and Territorial Management, contributing to programs such as MSc in Civil Engineering, MSc in Architecture, MSc in Environmental Engineering, MSc in Spatial Planning and Urbanism, and the doctoral program in Territorial Engineering. Since 2022, she has been the co-coordinator of the MSc in Spatial Planning and Urbanism in collaboration with IGOT and FAUL from the University of Lisbon. In addition to her teaching responsibilities, she is an integrated member of CiTUA (http://citua.tecnico.ulisboa.pt), where she coordinates the Thematic Line "Planning and Management of the Enlarged City" (https://citua.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/thematic-lines/). Her primary research interests focus on the relationships between land policies, spatial and urban planning policies, land and urban economics, and planning practice in the context of significant societal challenges emerging from megatrends like rapid demographic and urbanization growth or demographic losses, resource scarcity, and climate change-related hazards. Specifically, she researches how spatial and urban planning impacts local government's sustainable financing for public goods through land-based financing tools like value capture or land readjustment within a framework of comparative perspectives between different country contexts. With this background, she has been involved in various national and european research projects with multidisciplinary teams. As part of the research project 'CidadeTejo' ('TagusCity') - Estuary of Opportunities: dynamics, challenges, and threats on Lisbon's metropolitan waterfront, which she co-coordinates, she also explores how formal and informal planning "cross-border" scales can improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability of spatial and urban planning practice across the strategic and local level. Furthermore, she has been researching on the interface between urban planning and sustainable urban mobility challenges. This includes investigating how to dynamically allocate street space over time to accommodate multi-modal and multi-functional street uses while addressing critical issues facing today's cities, such as congestion, sustainability, equity, and safety.
