Sónia S. Ferreira is a researcher in the Chemistry Department of University of Aveiro at Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde (LAQV-REQUIMTE). She has a master in Food Biochemistry and completed her PhD in Food Science, Technology, and Nutrition in 2020/11/26 by University of Aveiro, with the thesis "Stabilization and valorisation of broccoli by-products as ingredients, source of bioactive compounds, and biomaterials". Her main research interests are the establishment of structure-function relationships of immunostimulatory polysaccharides and valorisation of agro-industrial by-products by isolation, derivatisation, and characterization of polysaccharides. Her research outputs include 22 articles, 1 highly cited review, and several participations in national and international conferences with oral or poster communications. Her current scientific research activities aim at the development of fruit juices enriched with soluble dietary fiber and prebiotic oligosaccharides, within the scope of the 'VIIAFOOD Agenda: 'Platform for Valorization, Industrialization and Commercial Innovation for AgroFood'.

2019 - 2023 My recent collaborations in poster/oral communications in national and international conferences have been mainly due to development of HPAEC-PAD methodologies to distinguish uronic acids present in marine or plant polysaccharides and analyse oligosaccharides. Neutral, (a and ß glucans with different glycosidic linkages, apple and pear oligosaccharides, and fructo-oligosaccharides) and acid oligosaccharides (galacturonic acid oligosaccharides and alginate hydrolysates) were analysed in the scope of Yeast4FoodMed and CLabel+ projects.
