Brno Azevedo have a Ph.D. in Drawing and its techniques of expression (Visualization and Computational Drawing in Arts and
Design) at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), Master in Teaching Visual Arts at the 3rd Cycle of Basic and Secondary
Education, Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences (FPCEUP) and by the Faculty of Fine Arts (FBAUP), and graduated
in Communication Design. He is an assistant researcher at the Algoritmi Center’s engageLab, an interdisciplinary laboratory
blending art, science, and technology at the University of Minho. In 2023, he received a Best Paper Award and was named a
Distinguished Member of the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI) https://blog.eai-conferences.org/2024/04/02/distinguished-members/.
Previously, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the Digital Humanities Group at the Center for Humanistic Studies at
the University of Minho under the PortLinguE project (PTDC / LLT-LIG / 31113/2017), focusing on information visualization,
user interface, and user experience design.
Bruno also contributed as a postdoctoral researcher to the project “6,849.32 New Scientific Journal Articles Everyday: Visualize
or Perish!” (POCI-01-0145-FEDER-28284), a multidisciplinary initiative based on his Ph.D. work https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY5gaINpXTpuFxl28zPP-bA/videos,
which focused on user experience, interface design, and information visualization. Additionally, he participated as a Post-Doc
researcher in the INNOVATIVE CAR HMI project, a collaboration between the University of Minho and Bosch, specifically in the
project line P6.8.9 Cockpit of the Future: HMI Concepts and Functions, specializing in intelligent adaptive interfaces, machine
learning, usability, and user experience.
As an invited assistant professor, he taught Information Visualization and Data Analysis in the Digital Humanities Master’s
Program at the Institute of Arts and Humanities and Digital Fabrication, as well as 3D Modeling and Animation in the Visual
Arts Bachelor's program at the School of Architecture, Art, and Design at the University of Minho. Bruno’s research bridges
design, art, science, and technology, with interests in the evolution of biological and cultural information systems, information
visualization (both hierarchical and relational), network science, information theory, complex systems, and user experience/interface
design. His methodology integrates UX design and visualization to unify data processing with interactive interfaces.
His current research focus merges aesthetic information visualization, Zazen meditation, neuroscience, and computational immersive
environments.
