Pedro Miguel Viriato Letras has completed a MSc in Marine Biology at Faculty of Sciences and Technology of University of Algarve, where he received a merit scholarship for excelent grade performance in the academic school year of 2020/2021 and completed a BSc in Biology in 2019 by Faculty of Sciences of University of Lisbon. He has performed several volunteering work including at Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre (MARE), where he made sediment trials and Allis shad species identification through fish gill arches and at Aquário Vasco da Gama (Marinha Portuguesa) with invertebrate and vertebrate biological systems preservation. With its topic of interest being algae, he has more than 24 months of experience throughout different algae related fields, including: at Centro de Ciências do Mar (CCMAR), where he performed a research internship on nanotechnology applied to microalgae; at Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA), where by a research internship he conducted species identification of toxic bloom forming Pseudo-nitzschiaspp. of the Portuguese Coast; and at Instituto Superior de Agronomia, where through a research internship he created a 3D printed gluten-free cereal snack with incorporation of two microalgae species, resulting in one published article in the scientific journal Algal Research and one scientific poster at XV Encontro de Química dos Alimentos. In its time at Arborea Ltd as Associate Product Development Technician, he actively participated in the creation of algae derived products in a neutral carbon footprint industry perspective. Most recently, Pedro joined GreenCoLab as a Project Technician, actively contributing with its expertise for dissemination of articles, creation of food products, and establishment of biorefinery pipelines for red algae species. Pedro hopes to continue this path, while developing its knowledge and skills on the topic of algal biotechnology by enroling in a PhD programme that enables its FCT Prestigious Doctoral Scholarship winning programm plan to take form.
