Susana Maria de Sousa da Silva Ferreira graduated in Biology from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Porto in 1998. During the last year of the graduation (from September 1997 until the end of June 1998), she had a scientific internship at the Experimental Cytology Center of the da University of Porto under the supervision of Professor José Pissara and developed a study entitled “Ultrastrutura do grão de polén de Cynara cardunculus L.”. Susana received her Master’s degree in Morphology from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto in 2004. Susana received her PhD in Neuroscience also from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto in 2012. Since then, she is currently a supervisor of 1 PhD student with the thesis entitled "Impact of Gestational Diabetes on Hippocampal Formation Function, Neuroinflammatory Response and Neurogenesis". She has supervised and co-supervised 6 MSc students with another five ongoing. Susana authored 15 SCI papers (h = 9), 9 indexed abstracts, delivered 2 invited talks in conferences and more than 30 poster presentations in scientific meetings. She is an Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Neuroanatomy at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto and an integrated research member of the CINTESIS R&D unit. Due to her large scientific experience in the manipulation and use of animal models, training and training in the field of “laboratory animal science”, she is responsible for the design and development of experimental paradigms where injections, subcutaneos insulin administration, gonadectomies and intracerebral surgeries are performed.
