Elsa Froufe is a Principal Investigator at CIIMAR, University of Porto. She earned her Biology Degree from Aveiro University in 1997 and achieved her PhD in Biology from Oporto University in 2006. Since 2010, Elsa Froufe has held the position of Team Leader of the Aquatic Ecology and Evolution group at CIIMAR, University of Porto. Due to her strong national and international network, she has been involved in dozens of national and international projects, including four funded projects as Principal Investigator. She supervised several postdoctoral researchers and students (PhD, MSc and BSc) and published more than 100 ISI-indexed publications with over 300 different co-authors. She frequently acts as a reviewer for the major journals in her field; regularly attends scientific meetings and workshops, has given several presentations, and has been involved in the organization of 10 of them (most also in the Scientific Comities). She has also been a grant reviewer for national and international funding agencies and an examiner in PhD and MSc evaluation committees, as well as for technician and research grant applicants. Elsa Froufe frequently uses multidisciplinary approaches, applies diverse molecular genetic/genomic markers and uses different biological models, in particular, fish and freshwater bivalves during the last years. Her main research interests are in the areas of biodiversity, population genetics and conservation. Her previous investigations resulted in important contributions to the understanding of historical and contemporary evolutionary forces that govern genetic variation in nature. In the last years, she has been more focused on several pressing issues such as global changes and impacts on ecosystem services, namely the impact of climate changes on the aquatic biodiversity.
