Thesis title: "Detection of Gamma-Rays in Liquid Xenon for Medical Imaging" - 1992: Graduation in Physics Engineering and Plasma Physics at Moscow Engineering Physics Institute (MEPhI) in the area of experimental nuclear physics. * Current position: Research scientist with LIP-Coimbra since November of 2006. * Main scientific and research interests: Astroparticle physics, dark matter search, low background experiments, noble gas radiation detectors, neutron detectors, statistical data analysis, experiment controls and SCADA, position sensitive scintillation detectors, medical imaging, machine learning. * Main areas of expertise: Liquid noble gas detectors of ionizing radiation (Ionization, scintillation and optical properties of condensed rare gases, Ultra-pure gas, ultra-high vacuum and cryogenic systems); Scintillation detectors (Light transport, Photodetectors, Position estimation algorithms); Low noise front-end electronics, pulse processing and data acquisition; Statistical data analysis; Experiment controls and SCADA; Medical imaging. * Participation in international collaborations/experiments: - ZEPLIN II & ZEPLIN III (2004 - 2011): Responsible for the remote control and monitoring system of ZEPLIN III; Developed a novel method for in-situ reconstruction of the spatial dependence of the detector response, leading to considerable improvement in gamma background suppression - RD51 (2008 - Present): Study of micro-pattern detector performance in xenon at low temperature, study of surface phenomena in LXe; - Large Underground Xenon (LUX) (2010 - 2017): Responsible for the remote control and monitoring system - LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ)(2012 - present): Coordinating the development (L3 manager) of the experiment control and monitoring system; Responsible for event position and energy reconstruction in the data processing software; - DUNE (2019 - present): development of a laser-based calibration system for the DUNE far detector. * Other responsibilities: - 2012-2014: PI of the FCT-funded project PTDC/BBB-BMD/2395/2012 "Adaptive methods for medical imaging with gamma cameras" (48 kEuro). - 2015-2018: Coordinator for Biomedical Application Research Group at LIP. * Experience as a scientific adviser: 4 MSc students (all concluded); 2 PhD students (all concluded); 1 postdoc * Published works: V.
