I am a researcher at the Center for Management Studies, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), where I am pursuing a PhD in Engineering and Management. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (2009) and a master’s degree in Flight Vehicle Design (Aerospace) from Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (2017). With over a decade of experience in engineering, project management, and research, I have worked on large-scale industrial projects, including the installation and commissioning of combined cycle power plants, gaining expertise in energy infrastructure, system optimization, and multidisciplinary R&D projects. My professional journey began in Pakistan, where I contributed to major energy projects, developing hands-on experience in power plant operations, maintenance, and performance optimization. I later transitioned to research, joining the R&D department of a public engineering firm, where I led various multidisciplinary projects aimed at developing innovative solutions to sector-specific challenges, particularly in energy systems and sustainable development. My current research focuses on integrating Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) and Machine Learning (ML) to develop decision-support models for sustainable energy planning. I am designing an MCDA framework to systematically evaluate and prioritize municipal photovoltaic (PV) projects based on technical, economic, environmental, and social factors. This framework is being tested using real-world case studies, such as Rajadell, Spain, to ensure its effectiveness in guiding sustainable energy investments. Additionally, I am developing advanced ML models to predict energy demand and optimize distribution within Renewable Energy Communities (RECs), leveraging historical data and real-time inputs to improve efficiency and reduce waste. My research aims to combine MCDA with ML-based predictive models to create a hybrid decision-support tool, enabling dynamic adjustments to energy project rankings based on evolving energy consumption patterns and production capabilities. By integrating data-driven modeling, predictive analytics, and decision-support frameworks, I strive to contribute to the development of more resilient, efficient, and community-oriented energy systems. My work directly aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) by addressing key challenges in project prioritization, energy prediction, and sustainable energy planning. Through my expertise in engineering practice and management science, I aim to bridge the gap between technical complexity and practical decision-making, providing actionable insights for industry stakeholders, policymakers, and researchers working toward a more sustainable energy future.
