Renato Ferreira da Silva holds a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2019) from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto and a PhD in Clinical and Health Services Research (2024) from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto (FMUP). Currently, he is a Research Pharmacist (specialised in Pharmacovigilance & Pharmacoepidemiology) at the Porto Pharmacovigilance Centre and an Invited Assistant Professor in the Department of Community Medicine, Information, and Health Decision Sciences at the FMUP, and an Invited Assistant at the Laboratory of Pharmacology of the Department of Drug Sciences at the FFUP. At FMUP, in the Integrated Master’s Degree in Medicine, he teaches Decision Data and Statistics in Health, Decision Data and Evidence in Health, and Decision Data and Digital Health. Within the Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Health and Biomedical Innovation, he lectures on Electronic Health Records and Productivity Tools. Additionally, he is involved in the Master’s Degree in Primary Health Care, teaching the Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis unit. Renato also contributes to postgraduate education, particularly through his involvement in two distinct courses: the Blended Learning Introduction to Clinical Studies (BLICS) and the Introduction to Clinical Studies - Africa. At FFUP, in the Integrated Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, he teaches Pathophysiology and Pharmacotherapy I. Previously, he served as a Invited Assistant of Pharmacology I and Pharmacology II in the Nursing Degree program at the Higher School of Health of the Portuguese Red Cross - Alto Tâmega. Renato is also an integrated researcher in the PharmaHTA - Therapeutics, Pharmacovigilance & Hypertension Diagnosis research group at the Center for Health Technology and Services Research (CINTESIS@RISE R&D) and a collaborating researcher in the Pharmacotherapy & Pharmacovigilance group at the Algarve Biomedical Center Research Institute (ABC-Ri). His research focuses primarily on clinical research, pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology, clinical epidemiology, and evidence synthesis, with a particular focus on the design and execution of post-marketing surveillance studies to evaluate the safety, effectiveness, and drug utilisation patterns, actively participating in their conception, planning, and execution. He is the author or co-author of over 30 full-length scientific publications, including 20 published in indexed journals within the ISI Web of Science/SCOPUS databases with an impact factor, 11 of which list him as the first author. His work has received 31 citations from 29 citing articles, contributing to his current h-index of 3. In addition, Renato has presented 20 poster communications and delivered 6 oral presentations at national and international scientific events. He has also contributed to 3 book chapters and authored a technical report. He participated in national and international projects, including ONCATS (health technology assessment), TREAT, TREAT-DUS, LOOK-UP, MINIMIZE, CONTROL-EU, and VAC4EU (pharmacovigilance and pharmacoepidemiology), as well as the SHAPES and SKILLS4ADHERENCE projects (ERASMUS+, focusing on digital health and therapeutic adherence, respectively). Furthermore, he regularly serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several scientific journals, having completed 37 peer reviews between 2021 and 2025. Renato Ferreira da Silva is an active member of several professional and scientific organisations, including the Portuguese Pharmaceutical Society, where he is part of the Clinical Trials Interest Group; the Portuguese Society of Healthcare Pharmacists, in their specialised sections of Research & Clinical Trials, and Regulatory Affairs & Quality; the Portuguese Association of Young Pharmacists; the Real-World Evidence and Big Data Group of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance; and the Porto Associate Centre of Cochrane Portugal.
