A.I. Gomes is graduated in Biology (2003) from the Faculty of Science, University of Porto (FCUP), holds an MSc in Environmental Engineering (2007) and a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering (2021), both from the Faculty of Engineering (FEUP). She successfully attended the first year of the Master's in Environmental Economics and Management at the Faculty of Economy of Porto (2011), has a specialization as Occupational Hygiene and Safety (OHS) Superior Technician (2008) and complementary skills in Quality, Environment & OHS integrated management systems (IMS) implementation and auditing (2009-2011). From 2004-2009, A.I. Gomes worked as a lab technician on environmental monitoring projects, covering physicochemical/biological/ecotoxicological parameters on water/wastewater/sediment matrices. She also engaged in research fellowships with private firms (Águas do Douro e Paiva, S.A. and ENEL S.p.A.), focusing on environmentally friendly technologies for pollution control (solar water disinfection and bio-based CO2 capture/storage, respectively). From 2010-2014, A.I. Gomes worked as an IMS consultant and trainer, delivering >1000 hours of training courses and supervising internships. In 2015, A.I. Gomes returned to academia to accomplish her PhD on multistage strategies for leachate treatment, developed under the AdvancedLFT project (with EFACEC S.A. and SULDOURO landfill), which she concluded with cum Laude distinction and that led her to be an active team member of a transnational cooperation project (DRI/CAPES 5431) with the Federal University of Ceará (Brazil). From 2019 to 2021, A.I. Gomes had a research grant under a European project (NOR-WATER, collaborating directly with CIIMAR-UP, University of Santiago de Compostela, and CETMAR), focused on CECs removal from secondary treated urban wastewaters by application of different AOPs/photoreactors. In 2022, she held a post-doc grant under the Healthy Waters project and was involved in the SERPIC project (from the Joint Programming Initiative Water Challenges for a Changing World, in close collaboration with the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Norwegian Institute for Water Research, Águas de Portugal and Fraunhofer Institute). Since 2023, A.I. Gomes is a junior researcher in LSRE-LCM, FEUP, in the scientific areas of Environmental and Chemical Engineering, focusing on water/wastewater treatment & technologies, sustainable processes for pollution control, and integration & intensification of processes. A.I. Gomes has 24 ISI papers (10 as the first author and 7 as the corresponding author), 1 paper in national scientific journals, and 42 in conference proceedings. A.I. Gomes has experience as an assistant in laboratory classes, completed the co-supervision of 3 MSc students (2017, 2022, and 2024) and 1 PhD (2023), assisted the experimental work of 9 international PhD students who carried out part of their thesis at FEUP and is currently co-supervising 2 PhD students. She was in the organization of the 2nd Summer School on Environmental Applications of AOPs, European PhD School on AOPs (2017), the NOR-WATER network webinar on Technologies for Remediation and Mitigation of Contaminants of Emerging Concern in Urban Wastewater (2021), and the Winter School on CECs and DBPs: Occurrence, Impact and Elimination (2024). A.I. Gomes was a speaker at the webinar Clean Water & Nanomaterials for Photocatalysis (2021, CICECO, DQ UA) and at the Knowledge Transfer Seminar from BIGDATA 4RIVERS project (2022), and moderator for the thematic session on "Wastewater as a Resource: Recovery of Water, Nutrients, and Energy" at Ciência2023. She is also continuously involved in several dissemination activities like MostraUP, Semana da Ciência e Tecnologia, and Semana Profissão Engenheiro.
