J. Xavier holds the position of Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI) at NOVA School of Science and Technology | NOVA FCT of Universidade NOVA de Lisboa. J. Xavier is a researcher at the Research and Development Unit for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (UNIDEMI). UNIDEMI received an 'EXCELLENT' evaluation from the FCT-MCTES. Besides, he is a member of the board of directors of UNIDEMI, Coordinator of the Master's program in Advanced Digital Manufacturing Engineering, and a Member of the Scientific Committee of the Doctoral Program in Mechanical Engineering at DEMI. Since obtaining the PhD degree, J. Xavier has participated, as a researcher, in 10 projects with industry and 11 projects funded by national government agencies (e.g. FCT, Portugal2020, Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad, ES, EPSRC Fellowship, UK). He is currently a principal investigator (PI) of an IC&DT project (DOI: 10.54499/PTDC/EMD-EMD/1230/2021) and Co-PI in PeX project (DOI: 10.54499/2022.06903.PTDC), both supported by FCT. J. Xavier has published 102 papers in international peer-reviewed journals with an accumulated h-factor of 33. Among them, 54 articles were published in Q1 journals. J. Xavier has published 5 book chapters and contributed to 1 didactic publication, among other academic resources for students. J. Xavier completed the supervision/co-supervision of 4 PhD (3nd cycle), 42 MSc students (2nd cycle) and 3 MSc ERASMUS students. Moreover, he is carrying out the supervision/co-supervision of 7 PhD and 5 MSc students. He has been invited as a member of juries of PhD and MSc thesis in Portugal, and Europe (France, Spain, Italy and Brazil). He has also been invited to international visits in the framework of research and projects. He is also a regular reviewer of international and national peer-reviewed journals. J. Xavier has been collaborating as membership of scientific and organising committees and courses. He has been invited as chairman in sections at different international and national conferences and in scientific and organisation committees. Moreover, he has been participating in COST Actions dealing with wood, timber, wood-based products and X-ray computed tomography. Furthermore, efforts were actively engaged in transferring technology from the research promoted or in which he has been involved.
