I, Gabriel Camilo, graduated in Chemical Engineering from the Federal Technological University of Paraná in 2023, with recognition from the Polytechnic University of Bragança (Grade: 15/20). I also obtained my Master's degree from the Polytechnic University of Bragança (Grade: 17/20), achieving a score of 19 in the presentation of my master's thesis, which focused on the production and purification of biodiesel. During my undergraduate studies, I worked with the production of green hydrogen from steam reforming of ethanol, a sustainable approach for hydrogen production. I acquired advanced knowledge in various programming languages, numerical calculation tools, and simulation software, such as MatLab, Python, Excel-VBA, Aspen Plus, and Aspen Adsorption. Additionally, I provided energy optimization services to small businesses in the Apucarana region, Brazil, while being part of the Junior Company at the Federal Technological University of Paraná. Throughout my professional journey, I completed an internship at Special Dog Company from June 2021 to December 2021, where I conducted laboratory analyses of effluents, including COD, depositable solids, and pH, to monitor the company's Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). Additionally, I tracked and input daily data into control spreadsheets and the company's management board. I also developed an Excel-VBA spreadsheet for efficient data control and monitoring. This experience reinforced my skills in data management and process automation, highlighting my commitment to innovative solutions. It also deepened my interest in sustainability, complementing my academic background and fuelling my aspiration to contribute as a researcher in the field of sustainable energy. During my undergraduate studies, I decided to embark on an international journey. I participated in a contest for the selection of students for a double degree program and headed to pursue my master’s degree at the Polytechnic University of Bragança in Portugal. From my master's thesis, I was able to produce two articles for publication being the first author: a review article published in the Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry (IF=6.1), a Q1 journal, and a research article based on the thesis experimental data, still under review but with promising prospects for publication. During my master's studies, I actively participated in five international congresses, where I had the opportunity to present my research findings, exchange ideas with fellow researchers, and expand my network in the field. In December 2023, I was awarded with a PhD grant within the project EIC Pathfinder Mediated Biphasic Battery [MeBattery], under the supervision of Prof. Dr. João A. P. Coutinho and Dr. Catarina Seiça Neves. My PhD focuses on investigating aqueous biphasic systems for application in redox flow batteries. For that purpose, I started to study the partition of redox pairs in aqueous biphasic systems composed of ionic liquid/polymer + water + salt, with special focus on thiocyanate and sulphate-based salts. Up to now, the redox pairs studied are focused on methyl viologen and TEMPO. The main goal is to improve, understand and optimize the design of redox flow batteries for sustainable and efficient energy storage, using thermodynamic concepts.
