Alison Laurie Neilson completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Comparative International and Development Education in 2006 in the Faculty of Education, University of Toronto, a Master in Biology in 1991 at York University, Toronto and a Bachelor in environmental studies and biology double major honours degree in 1989 at the University of Waterloo Department. She is an intergrated Researcher in the Interdisciplinary Centre of Social Sciences, at NOVA University of Lisbon, an Associated Researcher in the University of Coimbra's Centre for Social Studies, an Associated Researcher in The Stefansson Arctic Institute, Iceland and anAssociated Researcher, with the Biodiversity Group in the University of the Azores. She is the Founding Coordinator for the Research Network for Social Marine Issues in the Azores, for "RCE Açores" (Portugal) Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development in United Nations University, Institute of Advanced Studies of Sustainability. Her scientific research has been recognized nationally and internationally (203 citations for 18 book/chapters and 20 peer-reviewed articles), international presentations (89 in 17 countries). She has supervised 2 PhD theses to completion and is currently supervising a 3rd. She has co-supervised 1 MSc dissertation(s). Supervised 1 work(s) of course completion of LSc/BSc.
