nationally and internationally. This conference looked at artists and creative practitioners who are challenging the assumptions
made about rural life and culture, providing a new vision grounded in everyday experience and a critique of the rural-urban
binary. Connecting the local to the global, it invited an international and transdisciplinary conversation on art and the

Charting a chronological path through abstraction, this symposium explored the concept’s beginnings in the work of Malevich,
its global dissemination through the technologies of photography and graphic design, its political implications and its unravelling

This weelong workshop raised questions around the ethics and politics of socially engaged art, and discussed practical methodologies
from Augusto Boal's Theatre of the Oppressed, to Pauline Oliveros' Deep Listening. This was part of a wider programme with
a group of associate curators at Fondazione Sandretto, organised by The Institute of Things to Come.
