Gabriela Gonçalves holds a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Porto and completed her master's degree in Food Science and Technology in 2020. In 2021, she received a PhD grant from FCT and has since been dedicated to developing novel vaccines for aquaculture, using probiotic Bacillus spores as delivery vehicles. Her research is conducted within the MBAqua and NUTRIMU groups at CIIMAR. Gabriela has contributed to six R&D projects and has published four papers in her field. In 2021, she was part of the winning team of the 928 Startup Challenge, and in 2022, her work was recognized by NUTRECO as one of the Best Research Projects in animal nutrition and veterinary sciences. Last year, she received an ESACT grant to attend the 13th Animal Cell Technology Course and a FEMS Early Career Research Grant for congress participation. Throughout her professional experience, Gabriela has gained expertise in various laboratory techniques, including HPLC, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, phase-contrast and fluorescence microscopy, PCR and RT-qPCR, as well as RNA and DNA extraction and purification. She also has experience in microorganism growth and maintenance, recombinant protein production, cloning methods in E. coli and B. subtilis, Bacillus spores production and purification, and aquatic organism maintenance.
