Teresa has a master's degree in Biomedical Engineering and Biophysics, from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). She is currently doing a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering at the University of Aveiro. Through her years of studying, she became extremely fascinated with several biomedical-related areas such as Biomechanics, Biosignals Processing, and Computer Sciences. In 2019, in the context of the last year of her bachelor's degree, Teresa did an internship in Biomechanics for two months at the Biorobotics Institute, Sant¿Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa, in Italy. Her research consisted of detecting lack of balance during tripping, by analyzing signals from inertial measurement units and muscle activity. During her master's degree, she developed various projects including 1) the design of a wheelchair with a seat-lifting mechanism supported by a system of hydraulic pistons, in SOLIDWORKS; 2) the development of an Android application that allowed people with food allergies to choose safe products in the supermarket. She received the CSWA Certification as proof of her SOLIDWORKS expertise. She participated in three events: National Meeting of Biomedical Engineering Students at the University of Coimbra (2017), University of Porto (2018) and University of Aveiro (2020). She was a collaborator of the External Relations Department of the Students Association of Biophysics and Biomedical Engineering. In 2021, Teresa concluded her master's dissertation entitled "Biometric Authentication and Identification through Electrocardiogram signals" under the supervision of Dr. Raquel Sebastião and Dr. Raquel Conceição, in collaboration with the Institute of Electronics and Informatics Engineering of Aveiro (IEETA). In the light of producing scientific content, I produced the following journal paper: Pereira, T.M.C.; Conceição, R.C.; Sebastião, R. Initial Study Using Electrocardiogram for Authentication and Identification. Sensors 2022, 22, 2202: https://doi.org/10.3390/s22062202. After her graduation, she was a research fellow at IEETA for four months, focusing on ECG-based recognition systems. The research fellowship resulted in the publication of another journal paper: Pereira, T.M.C.; Conceição, R.C.; Sencadas, V.; Sebastião, R. Biometric Recognition: A Systematic Review on Electrocardiogram Data Acquisition Methods. Sensors 2023, 23, 1507: https://doi.org/10.3390/s23031507. In 2022, Teresa started her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering at the University of Aveiro, having been granted a Ph.D. scholarship. For her Ph.D. research project, entitled "Electrocardiogram for Biometric Recognition: Collectability, Stability and Application Challenges", she aims to develop an off-the-person ECG sensor for an ECG-based recognition prototype capable of accurately recognizing individuals. In the context of the courses of her Ph.D., she developed a project aiming to segment multiple tumors in MRI scans, having the opportunity to present her work at the 26th Iberoamerican Congress on Pattern Recognition: Pereira, T.M.C. et al. (2024). Breast MRI Multi-tumor Segmentation Using 3D Region Growing. In: Vasconcelos, V., Domingues, I., Paredes, S. (eds) Progress in Pattern Recognition, Image Analysis, Computer Vision, and Applications. CIARP 2023. Lecture Notes in Computer Science, vol 14470.
