Cátia Alves concluded her master's degree in Textile Engineering (Integrated Master's) at the University of Minho (UM), in March 2022, with a final classification of 18 (out of 20). During the Integrated Master, she has received 5 awards that congratulate the best students of each course per year at UM. Envisioning a Ph.D. in biomedical textiles in her future, she developed a master's dissertation, within the scope of the proposed research, entitled "Desenvolvimento de pensos com capacidade anti-inflamatória" and graded with a classification of 19 (out of 20). The envisaged objective was to create a wound dressing based on a composite functionalized with hydrogel and curcumin. Prior to her Master's degree, she started her first activity as a researcher fellow (November 2021 - November 2022), inserted in a project of the Centre for Textile Science and Technology (2C2T) (POCI-01-0247-FEDER- 047124). This project is a consortium between UM and two established textile companies, Otojal - Estamparia Têxtil Lda. and Tintojal, Tinturaria e Acabamentos, Lda., where several tasks are being developed. While working on this project, she concluded everything related to her Integrated Master's dissertation and published a manuscript as the first author (Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology). Proving her ability to conciliate simultaneously several projects. The published manuscript encompasses the results generated during her Integrated Master dissertation work. During her course as a student, Cátia improved the theoretical and practical aspects of her specialization area (textile materials), acquiring new knowledge regarding different areas such as microbiology, cytotoxic assays, as well antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. The antimicrobial assays were performed for 6 months at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Porto, acquiring important knowledge that will be crucial to her path in biomedical textile research. She is also the author/co-author of four journal articles, four book chapters, eight conference abstracts, one conference oral presentation, four conference papers and six conference posters. At the moment, four literature reviews and two journal articles are being written for publication. During her free time, she did two professional internships and developed a project for a company. In addition, she participated in a non-profit organization called "Núcleo de Estudantes de Engenharia Têxtil da Universidade do Minho (NEETEXUM)", having exercised functions as treasurer and president of the fiscal council, in the first two years of the creation of this organization. She also participated in several events, including welcoming new students to UM (VEM - Vamos Experimentar a UMinho, UPA - Universidade de Portas Abertas) and the European Researchers' Night (2023 and 2024). Cátia is considered an active person that shows great appreciation in developing her abilities, formulating ideas for textile products that could make a difference in our daily routine and leave a mark on the world. Currently, she's immersed in a Ph.D. program, focusing on crafting an implant using bacterial nanocellulose and lignin. This implant aims to be employed in the microvascular decompression surgical procedure, with the ultimate goal of providing relief to individuals afflicted by neuralgia.

During this session, Cátia presented my doctoral research project and provided an in-depth explanation of various methodologies and methods to be employed in developing the experimental component. The purpose of the class was to thoroughly explain these methods so that students could later apply them in the development of their master's projects and the production of scientific work.
