Telma Fernandes is presently a Ph.D. student in Plant Sciences at ITQB NOVA and a research fellow in the project “022.08266.PTDC: Lat-E(asy) pisi – “Durable resistance against the causal agent of powdery mildew (Erysiphe pisi) in grass pea (Lathyrus sativus L.): Exploring transcriptomic variation to develop molecular breeding tools for legumes”. She graduated in 2011 with a degree in Biochemistry from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and holds a Master's degree in Bioinformatics from the University of Minho. She performed her master's thesis entitled "Analysis of Subpopulation Proteomics and principal stress investigation of Pseudomonas putida KT2440 as a step towards deciphering population heterogeneities under varying environmental conditions" at Biochemistry Institute, University of Stuttgart, Germany through the Erasmus Mundus program. Telma was a research fellow within the PROTECTOLIVE project (EXCL/AGR-PRO/0591/2012), focusing on protecting olive trees against diseases and pests using molecular biology tools at the University of Minho. Following the completion of the project, she joined the STARE project (WaterJPI/0001/2013) at the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP), where she explored the relationship between bacterial communities in different WWTPs and antibiotic-resistance genes. Afterward, her passion for Plant Sciences led her to apply for the International Ph.D. Program Plants for Life. She is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at PRPlants lab, ITQB NOVA. Telma's research centers on unraveling the DELLA rice interactome and its influence on plant development. Beyond her academic pursuits, Telma actively engages in initiatives promoting science communication and lab sustainability, reflecting her commitment to fostering collaboration and eco-friendly practices within the scientific community.
