Maria João Vasconcelos has been a Portuguese Music Education Teacher in the 3rd Cycle of Basic Education since the year 2000.
She has taught Music Expression/Education and Music from preschool to secondary education. Since 2009, she has been a part
of the 610 (Music) Recruitment Group. Enjoyed the status of a scholarship holder, granted by the Ministry of Education, she
works as a Research Fellow for the Foundation for Science and Technology (SFRH/BD/147004/2019). She is currently working on
a Ph.D. project in Education (Supervision and Evaluation), hosted by the Research Units of the University of Aveiro: INET-md
(Institute of Ethnomusicology - Center for Studies in Music and Dance) and CIDTFF (Center for Research in Didactics and Technology
in Teacher Training). She holds a Master's degree in Music Sciences (Ethnomusicology) from the Faculty of Social and Human
Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon and a Bachelor's degree in Music Education for Basic Education Teachers from the
School of Education of Coimbra. In addition to these qualifications, she has completed the General Violin Course and the 8th
Degree in Musical Training at the Calouste Gulbenkian Conservatory of Aveiro. She is the author of texts in the field of Music
and Education, with articles published in the Encyclopedia of Music in Portugal in the 20th Century, the Journal of the Portuguese
Association of Music Education, the Portuguese Journal of Artistic Education, and the Electronic Journal of Music in Education
- LEEME. She has also been participating in meetings and conferences by presenting her work as a teacher-researcher. She was
a philharmonic musician specializing in flute/piccolo for many years.
