Martinho Martins

Martinho A.S. Martins has a long-standing research interest in the prevention and mitigation of forest soil degradation, especially due to wildfires and soil mobilization. He has a PhD degree in Environmental Sciences and Engineering (2022), and MSc and BSc degrees in Environmental Engineering, all three from the University of Aveiro. Currently, he is contracted by the EU project TERRASAFE, focussing on the effectiveness of innovative soil amendments against desertification, but continuing his prior work for the EEAA project FoRES on the impacts of wildfires on soil erosion (sensu latu) and their mitigation. He is first author of 9 peer-reviewed articles and co-author of a further 17 that have been cited 705 times, resulting in an H-index of 11 (Scopus). He has participated in 12 national and 5 international projects, in 8 of which hired through grants. He has supervised 26 students, including 1 PhD internship, 7 MSc theses and 18 BSc theses. He has organized 3 scientific events. He has been invited to deliver three oral presentations and has co-authored over 40 others, including eight as the first author. He has been actively involved in outreach and knowledge transfer activities, conducting four consultancy interventions focused on raising awareness and implementing measures for post-fire erosion prevention in broader society.
