Born and raised in the suburban outskirts of Lisbon. My academic journey started when I was admitted to the B.Sc. + M.Sc. in Physics Engineering at Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL). After one year, I concluded that my passion lied in the union of Health\Medicine and Engineering, as such I applied to the B.Sc. + M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), where I stayed until its end in 2023. Throughout my journey at IST, I refined my preferences, with a gradual approximation towards Computer Science (selecting related electives), and being part of some extracurricular Web Developer Projects. In my M.Sc. I finally converged towards Computational Biology|Data Science|Machine learning|Statistics. Having developed my thesis under the supervision of Professors Emanuel Gonçalves at INESC-ID and Pedro Beltrão at ETH-Zurich, where a connection between changes in the interaction of proteins and specific cellular phenotypes was sought using Machine Learning and Precision Medicine approaches. After my year as a thesis student, my interest in Deep Learning Generative Models grew. In particular, the transformer architecture, due to the exponential growth of GPT models and their feats in Natural Language Processing and syntax.
