Dominika Swolkien holds a Phd in Portuguese Language: Research and Teaching with specialization in Contact Linguistics (2015) from the University of Coimbra, an Integrated Master's Degree in Spanish Philology (1996) from the Jagiellonski University of Krakow, and a degree in Portuguese and English Studies (2001) from the University of Coimbra. She also received advanced training in Linguistic Typology and Language Description and Documentation at SOAS (University of London). Currently, she is an Assistant Professor at the University of Cabo Verde (Uni-CV) where she teaches graduate and post-graduate courses in Cape Verdean Language and Linguistics, Sociolinguistics, Contact Linguistics and Multilingualism. She has over 15 years' experience in the management of Cape Verdean HEIs in the areas of institutional assessment, international cooperation, as well as the design and coordination of postgraduate courses. Between 2022-2024, she has been a Prorector for Research and Advanced Studies at the Uni-CV. Her research interests focus on language description and documentation, particularly of Cape Verdean Creole, Morphosyntax, Historical Grammar, and Applied Socioliguistics. She is researcher at the University of Coimbra Center for General and Applied Linguistics (CELGA-ILTEC) and at the Eugénio Tavares Chair for Portuguese Language (Uni-CV/Camões Institute). In the years 2009-2012 she participated in the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology’s project Atlas of Pidgin and Creole Language Structures (APiCS). She is also involved in civic action aiming at introducing mother tongue in Cape Verdean educational system.
