Mariana Andrade is currently in Biomedical Science PhD program, specialization in Microbiology, and holds a Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences by IHMT-NOVA, obtained in February 2022 (final grade 18/20). She also completed a degree in Biochemistry at FCT-NOVA in 2019. Her areas of interest are antimicrobial resistance, efflux, biofilm, drug repurposing and the Galleria mellonella infection model. She actively participates in the implementation and maintenance of the G. mellonella infection model in the host institution. She participates as a team member in the R&D projects, DREBI-Exploring efflux inhibition to counteract antimicrobial resistance and biofilms in staphylococci (funded by FCT, 2022.07931.PTDC) and BIOSAFE-Preventing antimicrobial resistance in the community - the safe use of biocides (funded by FEDER/FCT, LISBOA-01-0145-FEDER-030713, PTCT/CAL- EST/30713/2017). To date, she has authored/co-authored 4 international peer-reviewed publications, and 20 posters and 6 oral presentation in national and international congresses. She is the Biomedical Science PhD student representative in the pedagogic council of IHMT-NOVA, a menber of “THOP – TB, HIV and opportunistic diseases and pathogens” group of the Global Health and Tropical Medicine (GHTM) R&D center and a SPM and ESCMID member. Mariana is also involved in the organization and participation in science outreach activities like AMR Summer School, European Researchers' Night, Open days and Microorganism Internacional Day.
